Samhain
& Halloween |
The ancient Celts were influenced mostly by the lunar and stellar cycles that ruled the agricultural year. Many of our modern Halloween traditions have their roots in this ancient rituals. Samhain marks the beginning of the winter and the dark half of the year. The Celtic New Year celebration begins each year on the Eve of November 1st. |
The Celts believed that the doorway between this world and the otherworld was especially thin on the Eve of Samahin. During this time, fairies and spirits trick humans. Nowadays people got into the spirit of the feast day by playing tricks too. It's the most popular of the Witches' Holidays. In order to ward off spirits, candles were placed in carved pumpkins. You can see our collection of pumpkins, bats, ghosts, vampires... in this page. |

The
night that is at once the end of the year and the beginning was considered
to be 'outside' of time. For this reason, Samhain is a holiday of divination
and a time of the dead. Graves, graveyards, ghosts... are in puzzles
and pictures.

Dead can cross the veil of darkness and dance with pumpkins and stars in the school's corridors.
