An aeroplane crashes in the middle of the jungle. The only survivor is a small boy who is adopted by monkeys. The boy grows up to become Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. Meanwhile Jane Goodall, a nature-loving documentary maker, and her fiancée, Archibald Porter III the hunter are on an expedition in the jungle. Tarzan's best friend Cheetah is kidnapped and taken to London.

Jane Goodall is working in the jungle. She is making a documentary for television. She is with her camera-woman, Shirley. They are filming all the animals in the jungle. They meet Archie, Jane's boyfriend. He has a present for Jane. Jane doesn't like the present. They argue. Jane gives her ring back to Archie and he leaves.

Jane and Shirley hear a strange shout. They hide behind a tree. Tarzan swings on a vine with Cheetah, his friend. Jane introduces herself. They try to talk. Tarzan speaks very little English. They are hungry so they eat some fruit. They decide to have a party. They sing and dance.

Archie, and his friend Cecil, are hunting animals in the jungle. They find Cheetah. They decide to kidnap him and take him to Timbuktoo. Shirley films everything on her camera. Tarzan and jane come in and Shirley tells them about Cheetah. Tarzan and Jane chase after them to Timbuktoo.

Jane and Tarzan are in a hotel in Timbuktoo. They are looking for Cheetah. Jane's mother, Lady Goodall, comes into the room. She introduces herself to Tarzan. They have a cup of tea. Suddenly Jane comes in and tells Tarzan she has seen Archie in the same hotel. Cheetah is in Archie's room. Tarzan and Jane have an idea. Jane phones Archie and invites him to have dinner in her room while Tarzan goes to save Cheetah. Archie brings some food to Jane's room. Will Tarzan be able to save Cheetah? Or will the evil Archie have his way?
