BAIONA TODAY

Today, Baiona is a 34.7-km-square town including the following villages:Baredo, Bahíña, Belesar and Santa Cristina.

ts population was about 5000 people from 1890 to 1910. From 1910 to 1970 there is a slight but constant increase so that today there are 10.499 inhabitants according to the 1996 census.

 

 

Fishing is the main economical activity of Baiona. Its fleet fishes in Portuguese waters and the Saharian Bank; inshore fishing and seafood gathering are also activities which must be taken in to account.
