PREHISTORY

The prehistory of Baiona is, at present, rather unknown. However, it is accepted today that the first men who settled down in Galicia, arrived from the south, through Portugal, following the rivers and coasts, so the first sites inhabitated were the regions next to the mouth of the river Miņo ( border on Portugal). Baiona is barely 33 km along the coast and 21 km inland from Portugal. This hypothesis is confirmed by the first paleolithic findings in Galicia.

The economy in this period is mainly based on the recollection of fruits, roots, hunting..., besides, on the coastal zones, fiishing and shellfish gathering , especially crustaceans and molluscs, are also practised.
