The Galician peasants together with the inhabitants of the cities, started a riot against the feudal lords. The first target was to bring down all the noble fortresses. This movement had great success from 1465 to 1469.
The
feudal lords, due to this popular riot ran away to safer places as Castile and
Portugal where the famous Pedro Madruga , Count of Carnifia. took refuge; with
the support of the kingdom of Portugal he formed an army and conquered
Pontevedra, Santiago and Baiona,
where he stubbed a lot of people and burnt their houses. Those who ran away took
refuge in Monte Boi, which was taken aswell. In this period, there is a heir
conflict in Spain between Juana la Beltraneja and Isabel, aspirant to the crown
of Castile; in general the Spanish nobility and part of the Portuguese one
supported Isabel, while the kingdom of Portugal, Pardo de Cela and Pedro Madruga
supported Juana la Beltraneja. Isabel won and she became the Queen of Castile.
A fleet of 30 vessels and 2,000 soldiers commanded by Ladrón de Guevara and Juan de Gamboa, reconquered, in Galicia, the towns which supported Juana la Beltraneja, as Baiona. Later, Pedro Madruga assaulted Baiona taking as a prisioner the Bishop of Tui, don Diego de Muros.
