INTRODUCTION.
Music in
the Middle Ages is still present through groups that continue to
play the music of that era with traditional instruments. These
instruments have been recreated from those we can find in
buildings like the Cathedral of Santiago (Porch of the Gloria)
and other monuments from that time.
The concert “Noreste
pop rock” is taking place tomorrow in the Riazor beach. The
group “Luar na Lubre” will preform.
You
are scholarship holders of a famous digital newspaper, in groups
of four you are going to make a news article on the festival,
which will include the evolution of instruments like the bag
pipe, tamboril, etc from 12th century and its importance in
present day. The news article will include sound files, videos,
etc. Don’t forget to make a route through the most important
festivals of Europe: Ortigueira, Island of Man, Glasgow, etc.
In
this web quest we are going to use the technique of the expert
within the work of each group.
Each group has four
components; one will work on buildings in which musical
instruments appear in its architectonic works; another one will
perform a study on the evolution of the musical instruments from
the 12th century; another one will research work on music in the
12th century and compare it with the music that makes “Luar na
Lubre", (This can be changed by another group) take a look at
their song “Son do Ar”. Another one works on the different type
of files (mp3, wav, midi) that you
can use. The article
can include videos, scores, sound files.
You have to consider the
following aspects:
Art

buildings that make reference to medieval musical instruments; The
Porch of the Gloria (Cathedral of Santiago)

Sound
files

different types of sound files.

Find out or produce sounds in order to support and illustrate
the article the team is writing.
PROCESS.

In order
to make this web quest you must perform the following
activities:
1. Each
member of the team does his/her own research work, with written
documents as evidence of his/her work.
2. In
your groups write a collaborative report, with contributions
from each member. In teams analyze the rigor of the contents,
the capacity of analysis and synthesis, the capacity to apply
knowledge in each case you must understand that critical
thinking improves the individual and collaborative work. All of
you must agree on how to manage the information you deal with;
try to be creative. The use of multimedia resources and the
presentation of the contents in a suitable scenario will benefit
the quality of your research.
3.-
Make your final product.
4.-
Presentation of the news article to the class and debate on the
work presented.
5.- Each
team sends an e-mail to the teacher documenting and indicating
three aspects of their work that would improve after the debate
in the class.
Resources

Use of
multimedia resources.

Conclusion
Each
student will reach his own conclusions on the own and through
the collaborative work (small group and class group).
The
participation in this work ensures that all the students will
gain knowledge of the medieval music, instruments and their
relevance in present day.
The
student must be able to apply the information and express their
ideas through materials they produce and apply the knowledge
acquired during the process.
