Celebrations and traditional games.

With the aim of knowing, keeping and above all   enjoying the traditional festivals , in our school we celebrate the "MAGOSTO", "CARNIVAL","MAIOS" and we restore TRADITIONAL GAMES.

We come on foot to recreational area in  the hills of Cedeira. I n this way we can watch and be fond of our natural environment and enjoy the beautiful views of Bay of Vigo and the island of St. Simon and part of the village of Redondela.

When we are at the top of the hill, we prepare the paper cones , grill the chestnuts and then we eat them.

We also give some time to sing popular songs about this traditional feast.

Then we make othre activities (watching,traditional games,...) to complete a playful and formative day.

We also make at this time of year baskets with seasonal fruit and leaves.Each classroom arranges some baskets and then we make a colourful exhibition with all of them.

We start the Carnival doing different activities in the classroom.During the two weeks before all the classes get involved in the topic :videos about the Carnival in Galicia, exhibition of photos, decorate the classrooms and communal places,making face-masks,cooking recipes, etc.One typical element in the Carnival is the Puppet (Meco). It represents something bad that happened during the year.The last day of the Carnival we dress up ,punish the Meco by burning it at the stake.

SCHOOL YEAR 2004-2005.

This year we have disguised as the different professions, making a parody about them.

It was very funny!

CURSO 2.003-2.004

 This year the "Meco" represented a factory of concrete that they want to build in our village, in Rande. The pupils participated in the assembly of the Meco and also in the writing of the judgment and, of course it was convicted.

All pupils and teachers participated in the comic performance about the different ages in our lifes. The elder pupils dressed up as babies  and the youngest as old people.

CURSO 2.002-2.003

This year the Carnival was special. At first we had hot chocolate with fritters. Then we dressed up and we perform the play " When our sea was in mourning " related to the disaster that   devastated our beaches at the end of 2002.

We distributed the characters: Infant as fishermen and fisherwomen. The first cycle as fish (different types of fish ). Grades 3 , 4 and 6 were the Black Tide and grade 5 were the volunteers.

After the play we all put in circles and we started with the Meco judgment. This year the Meco was the disaster: the PRESTIGE.    .It was guilty and it was burnt at the stake. We hope that a disaster like this never happens. Then  2and 3 cycles play with "playbacks"and,at last we were dancing and the carnival finished.

Everybody knows about the "Maios" in Redondela since they are very popular. 

In the school we´ve celebrated "Maios" for three years. On the3rd   May , all pupils and teachers have made a traditional "maio" . All children collaborated in different ways: picking flowers and fennel,bringing eggs,oranges.etc. After , in the classrooms they sewed up chains of flowers. They also wrote and learnt folk songs . 

Finally, we came out into the playground and assembled the "maio". First the fennel, then the flowers,eggs and oranges and at last the crown.

When we finished the maio assembly, we started to sing the songs and parade it around the school. Then we left it  at the school hall.

In our school we are trying to recuperate the traditional games.

   For some years we are trying that the pupils  can know something else about their parents and grandparents´life by means of the games they played when theywere young. So, every year in the planning we have a space for the popular games.
