The Road to santiago

Introduction

The route to Santiago de Compostela was a Roman trade route. It was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during medieval times  and lot of people travelled it by walking, by bike, and horse. There are different roads to Santiago but the French Road is the most popular. In ancient times, people used to sneak into the cathedral and use the incense to avoid bad smells.  Actually, the incense is used on special occasions and lots of people go to see it.

Two  schools are doing the Road to Santiago. In order to plan everything well, the groups have to solve some tasks.

Tasks

1. Make a presentation about the Road to Santiago, it should include the Romanesque style and main monuments in Galicia.

2. One group is in O Cebreiro 151Km from Santiago. They leave at 9:00 and walk at 5Km/h. The other group  leaves 3 hours later and they walk at 7Km/hour  If the two groups take 1 hour to have lunch, what time will they meet? How far from Santiago will they be?

3. As you know the incense  " Botafumeiro" is used during the most important events that take place at the Cathedral. Find out  how long the rope of the "botafumeiro" is, taking into acount that 10 complete oscillations last 2 minutes and 44 seconds.

Process

In order to make this web quest you must do the following activities:

 1. Create the appropriate tasks and select the photographs.

 2. Draw the French road and point out the place where the two groups will meet.

 3. Have a look at the video, draw up the oscillation and find out how long is the rope.
